I am afraid to admit this, but I will. The other day I was really BORED. It’s beautiful outside there are tons of things to do, but sometimes you just want to relax and enjoy just being at home without having any place to go.
Just in case, I am not the only one who this has happened to, I figured I would share what has worked for me. I will admit that there are several shows that I like to watch and most of them (or at least I thought) come on in the winter. I say I thought because I forgot about all of the shows that I watched last summer that are about to come on again.
Summer Programs Are Just As Good As The Fall Programs
Here is a list of just a few of my favorites…#DVRLove
Being Mary Jane – July 18th, BET
Queen Sugar – On Now OWN, Wednesday at 10PM
Still Star Crossed – On Now ABC, Sunday at 10PM
Suits USA, Wednesday, July 10th 9PM
The Carmichael Show – NBC, Wednesday at 9PM
Ballers – HBO – July 23rd 10PM
Daytime Divas – VH1, Monday 10PM
Power – Showtime, Sunday 9PM
Claws – TNT, Sunday at 9PM
The Profit – CNBC, Tuesday at 9PM
Super Soul Sunday – OWN, Sunday at 11:00AM
Even if I can’t catch these when they come on, I just set my DVR so I don’t miss anything and I enjoy these programs when I can.
Stream It
Streaming is so much different now than it used to be. Most homes are streaming some sort of content. Whether it’s a great program on Netflix or iTunes or whether it is streaming music from Spotify or audiobooks, be open to all of the possibilities. I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying all of those things. It’s a refreshing change, just make sure your network can handle it. Verizon Fios has great network speeds, so I can stream without buffering even when everyone else at home is streaming to.
Try Something New
I love learning new things and although I don’t do it often catching those shows on HGTV, The Cooking Channel and the other lifestyle channels can really help you take the edge off of boredom and get you really inspired. Cooking shows can inspire you to try out new recipes and the HGTV shows can help you start a new DIY project.
Plan Ahead Download Your Favorite Games, Apps And Books
Before I go anywhere, I download my favorite apps, books and movies to my tablet and phone while I am still at home. The download time is super fast and I save money and aggravation when I am traveling because I am not waiting hours for the movie to load and I am not getting messages telling me to wait until I am somewhere they have free or paid wi-fi.
Take A Day Trip
If I decide I want to go out, there are tons of options too. A day trip to the beach is always a good idea. A museum, a cookout, even the park is a great destination. If you drive and take the kids, load up your DVR with programs they love to watch and you may even be able to avoid the complaints every 5 minutes about whether you are there yet. The Verizon mobile app gives you access to the programs on your DVR and you can even watch some programs live.
These are just a few tips I found useful on those summers days when I had nothing planned. Try out some of them and please share some of your tips.

These are some great tips. I recently signed up for Netflix and I’ve been binge watching a lot of shows. I also keep my games on deck on my phone. I love day trips. They are great way to bond as a family.
