It’s Thursday, and just like many of you, I have begun my Scandal countdown. Although I am looking forward to the next episode, there was one line last week that well, kinda stuck with me. It was this one.. perhaps it stuck with you too. It was a scandalous line they snuck in….
“Everyone is worth saving. Everyone. In the face of darkness, you drag everyone into the light. That is the point. At least I’d like to think that is the point of you.”
When you are bothered by darkness, whether it is people you wish would change, policies that should be different, or challenges that push you to the edge, it can be hard to handle. Darkness has a funny way of making you feel like you are ALL ALONE and like nothing you do is worth it, but that ISN’T the TRUTH.
Dealing with overwhelm, and quite frankly what feels like your inability to change ANYTHING can make you feel powerless. You may feel like quitting, and wonder if any of this trouble is worth your time and effort. Even going so far as to say, or start to think what is the use. The truth is despite how you’re feeling right now what you decide to do DOES matter, and what you do DOES make a difference, even if it doesn’t feel like it does.
I have come to find out that each of us has our own kind of light. Your light is not like my light, and my light is not like your light. They are different on purpose, and that is a good thing.
My friend, If something is bothering you, maybe your job quite simply is to fix it. You could be the one that was created to bring awareness, bring hope, to fix it, or to change the whole thing for the better.
As I watched Olivia Pope’s face last week, it was clear that even though she didn’t want to, she got it, but do you.
Instead of getting mad and quitting, think about what can you do to make things better. You have the power to make things better for someone else, even if all you do is ease their pain by letting them know they are not the only one. By simply sharing how you have been coping you may give someone else enough hope to keep on going. Start looking for a solution. You may not take down the “establishment” all at once, but take small steps and see where it goes, you may end up turning on the lights for more people that you even thought possible.
When it comes down to it my dear, you can’t quit, someone needs you, someone is looking for you, and who knows you maybe the one that everyone has been looking for.
In the midst of darkness, I too would like to think that was the whole point of you…..
Great changes always start with one person that cared enough to make a difference…

I love Scandal! Olivia is such a strong woman (at least as long as Fitz isn’t around) – and you’re right, there’s so much to learn about doing the right thing there.

Kelly thank you so much for your thoughtful reply… yes I think there is so much to learn there about choosing to be a change agent and embracing your place.

@Kelly we can learn so much about how we respond when we are in relationships. She teaches us a lot.
