“If you don’t care where you end up, it doesn’t matter which way you go…”
There are a few things that I have found over the years, and one of them is the interesting formula behind success. Some people work their whole lives and never attain it, others end up in the middle, and then there are those people that are just wildly “blow your mind” successful. Now I could share some statistics or brain numbing information, but I would imagine none of that would really help you, and they would probably bore you to tear, so I won’t. Instead what I would like to do is share a few clues that may help you become wildly successful as well!
Key One…. A plan..Do you have one?
I love New York City, but getting around in that town can be confusing. It is big, busy, and there are about a dozen ways you can get to just about every destination, not to mention 3 different options for every address can leave your head spinning. On numerous occasions, I have found my GPS going a little crazy, and I have ended up going around in circles because I knew where I wanted to be, but I wasn’t quite sure how I was going get there. When you are ground level everything look the same, and with the hustle and bustle of the city, it is easy to get of track. Life can be the same way.
As an entrepreneur, Mompreneur, business owner, or a person with a dream you probably know where you want to end up. You probably even know what you expect to find when you get there, but do you have a plan? Plans keep you on track, and they help you stay focus, they also help you move forward faster.
Think about this, when kids start school this week, everyone of them should start the school year planning to finish, and ultimately expecting to advance to the next grade. In those four quarters, they will attend classes, complete various tests, and assignments, and hopefully they will successfully make it to the next grade or graduate. When you look at them, it is easy to see a successful start and finish because you are very familiar with the plan.
As a coach, my goal for you is the same thing. I want you to be so clear about your plan and how you expect to reach it that not making it would be virtually impossible. So where do we start?
Great plans start with clarity. For instance, I want to make 7,000 a month, or I want to cut back on my work hours, so I only work 30 hours a week. Those 2 goals are clear and concise. I know what I want to accomplish, now I can move to the how. Now the first question, is this realistic? If not, you need to change it before you do anything else.
Next we can move to part two, what will it take to get you there? I have found that a great way to get started is to look for 5 ways or 5 activities you can use to get you to your destination. If I take the examples from above, I would ask myself what kind of skills or opportunities do I have in front of me that would bring me closer to reaching my $7,000 goal target, and I would list them out. For the time example, I would ask what I need to accomplish during the week, and what are my time wasters and areas I could delegate to someone else, and I would generate my list of 5 from those areas.
Lastly, I would break my five activities, into monthly, weekly and daily activities, with a weekly or monthly check in to see how things are going. Your plans will ultimately be achieved by you completing a number of mini steps each day, with each one bringing you a little closer to reaching your final goal. So break down your tasks into bite size goals and do something every day to work on them.
Creating plans, and following them will make all the difference in your life. So continue to work on them and as you do the work that is required you will find that your dreams will quickly become a reality!
If this whole process seems overwhelming, confusing, or if you find the whole process a little over the top reach out to us, and let us help you there is no need to travel in the dark!

I am working on tweaking my “plan” now. I have decided that I want to try and get my posts scheduled more ahead of time so that I can take a day off! lol

Plan your work and work your plan. I heard this once and it is true. Also I read that if you want to ‘meet’ the goal. It needs to be written down. Otherwise you forget about it.

I completely agree with you, you can’t get anywhere without a plan. I also love setting short-term and long-term goals because I think it helps me to keep my eye on the prize, so to speak. Very motivational post.

Having a plan and sticking to it is the best way to go, but sometimes it is difficult to do that because other things in life get in the way!

I always have a plan but sticking to it is what I need to learn how to do. Can never get it done. 🙂

I am a goal and list person. I find I don’t function well if I don’t have a goal. This is a great article and I appreciate your sharing this.

I like the idea of starting by looking forward to your goal, like a certain income target, or a desired workload.
