I have a Confession to Make…
Over the past several weeks, I’ve had several “freak” accidents. Those accidents, incidents and injuries have kept me from my normal exercise routine, have left me feeling less like my normal self.
As a result, I would like to share just a few things I have learned and also share some of the solutions that I have implemented in hopes that they can help you too.
Each of us has slow seasons, and then we have a busy season. It is helpful to know when they are, so you can plan accordingly. For me, those times are May- July, and November – into late December. You need to be able to identify when your most taxing times are, and then you need to know the best ways to recover from them. You may not be able to change your situation right away, but it is good to have a game plan to follow when things start getting out of hand. Perhaps you need to have more meals brought in, so you don’t have to cook. Perhaps you need to automate some tasks, or get some help, do what you need to do, to keep things on track and moving.
Next, understand how your body responds, and then know what you can do to combat it. During this busy time period, I have found that I am more susceptible to colds, I am more emotional, and I am more prone to wearing myself. I have also noticed that my recovery time takes longer if I don’t pay attention to the warning signs early, and I don’t support myself well. In order to support my bodies physical and emotional needs, I have to workout more, eat clean, and have more quiet time with myself. These activities allow all my bodies resources to go toward fighting infection, keeping me energized, healthy, and balanced. When things are more challenging, you have to identify what your body needs. Perhaps you need to get more massages, or you need more time in prayer. Be sensitive to the needs of your body, mind, and spirit so you can make some adjustments.
Lastly, slow down or stop when you need to in order to give yourself time to rest or recover. It is important for us during those busy times to be very conscious of what we add to our plates, and to take as many of the opportunities to rest and recharge, as possible. It might be in your best interest, to turn down invitations, and new assignments so you don’t get overloaded and so you can give yourself adequate time to rest. If you get over committed, or if you don’t get the rest you need, and you fall out who is going to take care of you. Learn to say no so you can get the rest you need. If your calendar looks crazy or if you barely have time to breathe, don’t add another thing to it, unless you are sure you can get some rest at some other time in the near future, or unless missing this event or assignment is critical.
When things get crazy remember, if you don’t take care of you who will! In an effort to support my health, I have chosen to start juicing. I will be sharing my experience on the GirlfriendswithGoals.com site. If you are looking for to improve your health and increase your energy levels, or are just curious and want some additional tips, check out the blog over the next 30 days.
