Cause there’s someone down there waiting whose only goal in life
Is making sure you’re always gonna be alright
A loving angel tender, tough and strong
It’s almost time to go and meet your mom.
Garth Brooks – Lyrics from “Mom”
I don’t know about you, but I really enjoy GOOD music, the genre doesn’t matter, but when the words sing to my soul, I am sold.
Music has changed A LOT.
But, songs with great music and great lyrics live forever.
They grab your attention, make you stop in your seat. They can even make you put down whatever you are doing. Great songs become the theme songs of our lives, especially when they remind you of beautiful people or when they are connected to wonderful memories.
Writing a song about moms is almost impossible, because who can really capture the essence of a mom or what she does, in words.
I mean my mom is such a beautiful person there is no one like her in the world.
Yes, She’s short, I’m tall. I’m conservative, and well she likes tons of color, we are different to say the least, but she is my mom, I love her and I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world.
That young lady pictured above has taught me so much in 40 something years.
She taught me how to behave with class, even when I was faced with challenges. She taught me about giving to others, and how to think of others more often than I thought of myself.
Mom didn’t just teach me with her words, she taught me with her actions.
She sacrificed for me.
I knew she would give me the shirt off her back, without a second thought.
She is definitely a tough act to follow.
As a mom now, I am just starting to understand what it takes, or better yet, how hard this job really is….
I understand why mom got so mad when I didn’t call to say I got home safely. It wasn’t because she was trying to be unfair or mean, it was because she couldn’t sleep unless she knew I was okay.
Now I know why she was mad when I didn’t do my best in school, because from the beginning she was thinking about my future.
This is what mom’s do….they love us before they can even see us, from the very first kick.
That is how I felt about my daughter, from that very first heartbeat.
From the second I heard she was on the way, a love you can’t describe in words began.
The moment she was born her beautiful face drowned out the world and from that day forward, so many of my life choices were centered around what was best for her.
As a mom, you sacrifice, you give up opportunities, you figure out reasons why you just don’t need “XYZ” right now.
You worry, you pray, you encourage and you push, because you know that child is counting on you.
Being a mom is hands down one of the most important jobs in the world and it belongs to you.
So does “Mom” capture the spirit of a moms all around….the love, strength and the sacrifices, can they really be put into words?
These words surely describe my mom…but
You’ll never have a better friend
Or a warmer touch to tuck you in
She’ll kiss your bruises, your bumps and scrapes
And anytime you hurt
Her heart’s gonna break – Garth Brooks – “Mom”
