On Friday, I got to see a movie I have been hearing so much about. The book came out a couple years ago, and I remember hearing about it on Oprah.

Honesty, it didn’t seem to have much context for me, but after seeing the movie I changed my mind.
As a woman, so many things have the ability to change our lives. There are things that seem to shatter our very foundation and leave us almost lifeless.
Life has a habit of changing our directions and putting us on a different path often without our consent.
Essentially, Wild is a movie about a woman whose path took her in a different direction. She loses her mother and it throws her into a cycle of distraction.
At its core though the movie is about losing and gaining. About growing and grieving. About losing yourself, and finding yourself again. Life…
Cheryl takes us on the ride that any of us could’ve gone on. Many of us are only a few bad choices away from destructive decisions that can haunt us for what seems like a lifetime.
With those shattered pieces,we have to rebuild something out of the scrapes that we have left.
For Cheryl, her cycle of destruction starts when her mother dies after a very short bout with cancer. After losing her she feels helpless, feeling hopeless, and out of control.
Coming back to herself is not easy, she stumbles and falls, but can she make it?
In Wild, you see her develop and grow, you see her find her own strength. We see her come to understand her failures, and her own choices. We see her give meaning that the very things which could’ve torn her apart. We see her make peace with her bad choices and challenges.
I love the movie, because I think in some way, shape or form we all have moments where we feel just like Cheryl, and it is amazing to be reminded that we always have the ability. For me to see her come back and discover that place again and then to see her become greater than she thought she could be was beautiful.
The movie is a reminder that each and everyone of us grieves differently, copes differently and comes back differently. But it is also a reminder that coming back is always a VERY real option.
