I can still picture the video of that mom who was hiding in the bathroom to get one minute of time to herself. I don’t think there is a mother alive today who couldn’t relate to that picture.
Hiding in the bathroom to get some peace and quiet may sound extreme, but finding downtime often requires creativity.
Hopefully you don’t have to hide in the batthroom, but if that’s the only place you can go to get peace and quiet, I’m sure it will do. The real question is how do we create the downtime we need when our lives are full and the demands are real….. I am glad you asked!
Creating Downtime Starts With Taking A Close Look At How You Spend Your Time.
What have you been doing, what tasks are you making a priority and are these things really important? In order to create downtime practice using that magic word “No”. Saying “no” even if its just for a season will help you stop committing to things that you don’t have time to do.
Look at your calendar and ask yourself what you can stop doing, and ask if there is anything that you can delegate just to give yourself some room to breathe.
When you realize how precious your time is, you will stop wasting it. Taking control of your calendar is a great way to find time to enjoy your guilty pleasures. I can guarantee your wasting more time than you think.
Here is a Tip: Take out your calendar highlight the things you have to do, and underline the things that you don’t. Ask yourself what would happen if I decided not to do this, right now or what would happened if I decided not to do this at all.
Give Yourself Permission To Put Your Feet Up & Relax.
Sleep in, go to bed early, put your feet up and catch up on your favorite shows, binge watch that show that you have been hearing everyone talk about. Now is the time to get creative.
I love using my #DVR to enjoy those shows I don’t have time to watch during the week. I watch them when I have time, not when they come on TV. My tablet goes every where with me and I love using the FiosApp to catch up on my favorite shows while I’m out or while I am in areas of my house where I don’t have a TV. I’ve learned how to use the tools at my disposal to make my life work for me.
These changes may seem small, but they make a big difference. Clearing up my calendar so I have time for the important things in my life is cleansing. Knowing that my favorite shows are available when I want to see them, means I don’t have to worry about falling asleep in the middle of my favorite shows and wondering what happened. I’ve used the tools at my disposal to empower me and that enables me to indulge in my guilty pleasure a little more often.
