When All You Have Is a Word
Isaiah 55:10-12
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
There are times in my life when I can remember having only one thing, not money, not resources, not answers, only a word. Yes, I had friends, family and people I could count on, but not one of them is certain. People can and often do change their minds. Friends may want to help, but they may not be in the position to assist you. Family loves you greatly, but their experience or viewpoint on what you are asking for, may not match up with your vision. Now what?
There is a promise, as a matter of a fact plenty of them that remind us what IS possible. Words that don’t change and opportunities that are promised, and not lent to us, but backed up by Divine word and action. They are the promises of God, His promise to keep us, to care for us, to love us, and to be there for us. They are permanent, they are proven, and they are found in the Word of God. Some of them, we have been fortunate enough to see come to pass not only in our own lives, but also in the lives of others. Even if we haven’t had the privilege of seeing them take shape in the lives of people we know, in the word of God they have come to pass over and over, again.
Those times in your life when you feel like God couldn’t possibly be paying attention, His promises serve as a reminder to us that the very things that other people can only pretend to give us, or even desire to give us, God can and will make happen for us in its time.
The problem, or challenge is when. I am sure I am not the only one who has sat in front of the Lord with a list and asked, when Lord when! The biggest challenge most of us face and the place where most of us fall or stumble is when we are required to wait. Yes, most of us know that God can and God will, but the question is when. Especially as we, feel as if the walls are coming in all around us. You and I both have times when it seems as if God is already behind schedule, but He isn’t. God doesn’t show up late, and He doesn’t show up early, He shows up on time!
Whenever we are going through something we have to understand that God already has a solution. Your problem, He fixed that yesterday, and His yesterday, not ours. God answers our prayers, at the right time, when HE knows we can handle what He has waiting for us. Just like we wouldn’t give a baby a diamond ring, God will not give us something of value that we are not prepared or ready to handle. Receiving a treasure that you are not ready to appreciate and care for, is no better than giving a 6-year old a drivers license. Some things in our lives require training, appreciation and care otherwise we are sure to ruin them.
Trust God and love God enough to know His timing is working in your favor. Stand still, wait, pray and remember that He is capable of everything you have asked for and more. God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ever ask or imagine, whether HE decides to do it when and how you want Him to is up to Him. He can answer your prayers in an instant, but are you ready for the answer He is ready to send. Trust in God’s timing, and faint not. Allow His words to keep your comfortable, and care for you. His delay has come for a reason, and you do not wait in vain.
Until Your Answer Comes –
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and HE shall make your path straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
