I’ve been hearing about this place for years. It seemed like everyone I knew went there except me….
People said so many great things about the shows, at some point well, it just seemed like media hype.
I will tell you after seeing Joseph, I was wrong, COMPLETELY WRONG, and I am not afraid to admit it. Seeing their newest production Joseph, was an eye opening experience.
I am going to attempt to tell you, what no one was really able to tell me. I have included some pictures and I hope you will go to their website so you can see the others yourself.
It Started When I Pulled Up To The Theatre
From breathtaking entrance to the kind people who ushered us to our parking space, I could tell something was different.
With banners with the show name handling from the top of the building I was starting to see this was NOT what I had pictured, not in Lancaster, PA. Flowers were everywhere and we hadn’t even opened the door… ok…
The place was packed when we arrived even for an early show. We walked into the lobby and it was like I was transported to another place. My guests and I were pretty impressed.
Captivated by everything from the halls, to the feeling you got as soon as you walked through the door, and this was only the hallway…
Palm trees and an awe creating coming soon statue for Samson the production due out in 2016. (go to the website for more details). Hmmm, all I could think was, what did I get myself into..
Hopefully you are starting to see what I mean…
The Samson sign even had some smoke coming from it….
It was so cool, everyone who walked by it, stopped to take it all in…
The gift shop was filled with music. There were DVD’s playing from previous plays, and on the screen you got a sense of what you might expect from the show… wow, pretty impressive.
A full cast, great singing, WAIT is that a real animal. (I was told that they had animals in the production but I had never seen anything like that in a live play so, the idea was still a little hard to picture. Would there be a cat or a dog, a little baby sheep?). I guess we will see.
My daughter came to see another production, so she knew what to expect, but as I walked into the play I was still not quite sure.
Before we went into the show we took in everything we could, from the gift shop to the concession stand. Of course, there were PLENTY of goodies I would love to take home, and tons that would make great gifts for people I knew.
Snacks for everyone from grandma to their youngest fan. The scent of nuts roasted filled the air.. Ok, the show hasn’t even started and I am beyond impressed and really happy….
Time for the Show
With great seats and a few of “our friends” we waited in expectation for the great unveiling….And boy, did we get one..
I wish we had pictures of the actual performance, I really do because when I tell you it was TOTALLY AMAZING, I KNOW that doesn’t quite capture the experience.
The acting was superb, the storyline was truly the Bible acted out on stage with language that people of all ages and experiences could appreciate. There were animals, not just a few but tons of them (and, no there was no smell, just in case you were wondering). The singing was amazing and I really consider taking the soundtrack home that day. My daughter who loves theatre and my sister in law, who attended with me were in awe. Please go to there website to see some of the action yourself (just click here).
I am still trying to figure out how in the world they got an actual camel in this part of the country and if only I could explain how amazing it was to have actual full size horses walk down the aisle with lambs, and sheep.
When we got to the intermission, I didn’t know what else they could possibly do, but there was still more.
They ended the play with a call for prayers, offering every member of the audience the opportunity to pray with someone if they had a concern. Pretty awesome!! Wow!! Wow!! Wow!!
This is the look I had on my face when I left this performance and I caught it on film because I know this is how your face will look when you leave. Don’t take my word for it, check it out yourself!
Whether you heard the story of Joseph or not when you came in, you definetely knew it when you left.
After all this time, I know why people have been going to Sight and Sound for years, it’s actually simple. The performances are completely jaw dropping to say the least. It’s a great experience for everyone from age 3- to age 103 (No, I’m not exaggerating). My picky teenage daughter talked about it just as much as we did. So, don’t leave your young people at home. Anyone who appreciates art, great entertainment and an amazing experience will appreciate this play. The 180 degree stage, the music, the acting. I really can’t say enough about it and I am pretty picky.
Start Planning Now
If you haven’t been to Sight and Sound yet.. don’t wait. I promise it’s only you who is missing out, I you don’t go there and see a show.
This is my feeble attempt to describe an amazing experience, but the truth is, I really can’t. I stopped going to plays because I started to feel like they were all the same, WELL lesson learned I was completely wrong about this one.
Add This One To Your List…
With the holidays looming, I encourage you to plan your trip now. This is a great experience for the whole family and it would make a perfect gift for that person on your list who never tells you what they want.
Don’t Miss It…
Joseph is only open until October 17th, but The Miracle of Christmas opens on November 7th and goes into early January.
I would also encourage you to make your plans now for Samson, it really looks like it is going to be another amazing production and that opens in 2016. If Joseph, is any indication of what you can expect to see, you really are going to be impressed.
