In a few more days, we will be celebrating the entrance of 2014. The big ball will drop, and people will usher in 2014 with a bang. But, did you know that there were actually two New Year’s every year?
Our world is made up of beautiful people from many different places, with tons of different holidays and customs. When you find out about all of the holidays that are celebrated across the world it is both amazing, and beautiful.
Taking the time to recognize the customs of the people around you, and then taking the time to understanding those customs is a part of growing. Celebrating with others is not only educational, it is also important. For instance, have you ever heard someone say this is the year of the horse, or the year of the rat, or the year of the dog, or even the year of the tiger. Actually, there are 12 different animal classifications and each year it changes.
Every year, The Lunar New Year falls on a different day, somewhere between January 21 and February 20. This year it falls on January 31,2014. During that time, many people across the world will celebrate the Lunar New Year also called Chinese New Year. It is the celebration of the beginning of the year and also the end of winter. Although it is celebrated by asians across the world, it is especially important holiday for asians who live in countries like China, Tibet, Korea and Vietnam.
For Asians all around the world, including Asian-Americans, Lunar New Year not only celebrates the beginning of the year but also the ending of winter and the anticipated arrival of spring.
You have probably seen pictures of people celebrating the Lunar New Year, and not even realized that is what it is. I know I have seen pictures of the parade, and I have even seen the beautiful costumes that are worn, and the dances that have been done. I remember seeing pictures of the food, and all of the bright red that is everywhere.
