When something bad happens you have two choices you can give up or you can fight.
When that something is cancer….you need support, understanding, great comfort, and love.
One family and their little cancer fighter, Alex made that choice to fight, and not just fight, but they decided to help others fight as well.
Just like that, Alex’s Lemonade Stand was born! Before Alex passed away, she raised an amazing amount of money.
Although Alex lost her battle with cancer, her work continues thanks to her family and many others who decided to carry on her work, and who work hard to find a cure, raise money and support families in the struggle.
Alex always knew that the work she was doing was bigger than her family, bigger than people who she could physically touch. This work was born with others in mind, and no matter what Alex was committed to helping as many people as she could and working hard to make a difference.
On Monday, I meet Alex’s Lemonade Stand Co-Founder and Alex’s mother, Liz Scott. I also had a chance to hear about their newest initiatives, #LemonForce a campaign to celebrate one of their biggest fans and fallen heroes, Dan. Jodi, Dan’s mom shared her sons love of being part of the organization and how his commitment to helping others inspired her and made her proud. During the meeting, Dan’s mom shared stories about her experience, and she gave us a birds eye view of her son, and his love for giving back to others through the work he did with the Alex Lemonade Stand, and how it helped their family.
Both mom’s also shared some information, that I think all of us can learn from when it comes for supporting families, how they made it through the experience, and how we all can be part of the solution. Here is the #LemonForce mask that honors Dan. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is hoping to raise over 40 thousand dollars this holiday season to give the gift of hope for a cure.
#LemonForce, celebrates Dan and his love from super heroes, and it also reminds each of us that we too can choose to be heroes in this fight by helping others, and donating to this cause to fight cancer.
Get the kids involved:
Share this cause with your kids and ask what you can do together as a family . Think of donating the cost of a dinner one night when you were thinking of having pizza or going to a restaurant, stay in and cook and donate the money to this cause. Buy one less gift, and donate the money to this cause. Have an E-bay sale to get rid of old things and donate the money to this cause. This is a great way to teach your kids the importance of sharing and giving back this holiday season, and making it an experience they can relate to at any age.
