Summer is a great time for outdoor activities.  I am always looking for fun things to do, especially events or outing to do with family or friends.  When I find something good I like to share it because I am sure I am not the only one looking for fresh fun ideas.

I can still remember the day I walked into Starbucks and I saw a wave of people coming in.  They we’re laughing and enjoying each others company, but they were a powdery mess.  It was a warm summer day and I couldn’t help but stare, so eventually I asked the obvious question, “Where are you all coming from?”.  They said we just got finished doing, “The Color Run“.

It’s a scene I will never forget, so as soon as I got home I searched the web to see what The Color Run was all about.

The Color Run is a 5K fun run with events all around the world, and as soon as I got home I signed up.

Why It’s A Great Event

It’s fun for the whole family.  I couldn’t believe it when I saw entire families walking, from strollers to wheel chairs, young and old all got together to get good and dirty.  They were laughing, joking and they were busting with color.

The Color Run is not a timed race, there are plenty of walkers and runners.  Everyone gets a medal and a packet of colored powder and there are usually other goodies too.  The best part is the laughs you experience while going through the course.  They make sure that the run is jam-packed with surprises and the after run dance party is something not to be missed.

My girlfriends and I have done this run three times already and we always enjoy ourselves.  Great music, lots of laughs and you never quite know what will happen.

The Unexpected Thrill Of Getting Dirty

I heard a thud and then just like that my girlfriends was covered in colored powder.  I looked at her, she looked at me and we both erupted in laughter.

She had orange powder everywhere and we were hysterical.  I could barely talk, when I heard the second thud and just like that I was covered with powder.

My hair was orange, my clothing was covered in powder and we literally laughed until we got home.  Runs are easy to come by, but a memorable time is rare.

They used to have two versions of the run, The Color Run and The Color Run Night although I don’t see any new dates for the Color Run Night.

At the end of the day, The Color Run offers a unique experience for the whole family, which provides both fun and lots of surprises.  I encourage you to add it to your to-do list.
