Summer is one of my favorite times of the year, the bar-b-ques, trips to the beach and lots of summer fun.
During this time of the year, the goal is staying cool and enjoying the outdoors. Ice cream and water ice are some of our go to favorites, but isn’t there anything else. Why of course there is!
Here are a few of my personal favorite go to items that are healthy and tasty, my favorite combination.
Homemade Popsicles
Making Popsicles is fun and easy. I love to make my own because I can control both the taste and the sugar. You can also get creative by blending fruits like strawberries, pineapples, and watermelon and create your own unique blend.
Fresh Fruit Bowls
This is just what you think it is, bowls of fruit. The only difference is presentation. I used my scooper to cut my watermelon, benefit it wasn’t as messy as the slices and when I was done, it looked like ice cream. You can also do fruit combo bowls with strawberries and banana, strawberries and raspberries, and pineapple. What ever you put together know it is a great way to eat more fruits and vegetables and if you have kids it’s nice to way to “trick” them into eating healthier.
Frozen Fruits
This is just as easy and it really is a refreshing and healthy way to enjoy the foods you love. It’s simple grab some grapes and put them in the freezer. Take them out when you are ready to eat and enjoy. These will keep you cool and they are also melt in your mouth good.
Smoothies
These have grown in popularity as an everyday drink. I love my strawberry and banana smoothies. I know a lot of people who make green smoothies, I’m not one of them but I know they are good. Instead of making them with just fruits and vegetables, you can also add ice and make them a cool and refreshing treat.
Fresh Fruit “Ice Cream”
This is a goodie you can make all year. I love taking fresh fruit and putting it into the freezer until it’s frozen or buying frozen fruits and throwing them into the Vita-Mix until it is frozen ice cream consistency.
I don’t know if it will work in a regular blender, but I think it should. You blend the fruit together until it’s creamy and then you serve.
These are just 5 of my favorite goodies, please feel free to share some of yours. These are healthy, yummy and refreshing and I am sure you will love them as much as I do.
