I am committed to doing a better job of taking care of me, that means I am COMMITTED to making some real changes. Over the past ten years, I have made a number of positive changes that I can celebrate.
- I eat clean as often as possible.
- I eat more fruits and vegetables
- I eat organic when possible
- I drink more water
- I exercise
- And I take better care of my overall health
Even though, that is true there is always room for improvement.

That means I am always on the lookout for small ways to change how I eat and what I eat.

What Works For Us
My family and I are more likely to stick to something new when I take things slow. I don’t make any drastic changes, I know that developing healthy habits takes time. So, I do EVERYTHING in baby steps. I make a habit of trying new foods and recipes every once in a while. I usually try it first and then I try it on them.
Why Turmeric?
Turmeric is a spice I found out about several years ago, and I have been trying to introduce it to our diet whenever I can. Turmeric is a spice I am trying to use more often because of it’s health benefits. It is full of antioxidants and it’s a natural anti-inflammatory. For years, people have been touting it’s medicinal qualities. It is supposed to help fight cancer, help with Alzheimer’s disease, help with arthritis, and help fight depression. All things that I want to avoid. These are just a few of the reasons I have decide to add it to our diet, but I encourage you to do your own research. Here is some additional information about Turmeric if you want to check out one of the articles that I found.
How To Add Turmeric To Your Diet
Drink It Warm
Recently I tried a recipe for Golden Milk, which I actually like. It is a recipe from Nicole Graves at The Sweeter the Juice. It was super easy to make, it was light, it had a mild flavor and it had a calming effect. I would definitely make it again.
Another great way to add more Turmeric to your diet is to find a Turmeric tea that you like or you can even make from scratch (I’m not that ambitious). I’ve actually found a few pre-made turmeric teas that I like, one is Three Ginger tea by Pukka and Rishi has a Turmeric Ginger tea that is pretty good.
Juice It
I have juiced turmeric several times, I try to add it to my juice mixes whenever I can. It paired well with oranges and lemons and I also added it to my cantaloupe mix. It was pretty strong, but with the right fruits and vegetables it works. I have two juice recipes on the site that include turmeric, one is called the Cantaloupe Cocktail (non-alcoholic) and the other is called the Cantaloupe Crush (non-alcoholic). Click on the links if you want to give those a try.
Add It To Your Food
Turmeric has a strong flavor. I’ve added it to dishes before and I’ve been happy with the results. India dishes tend to include turmeric so if you want to explore it that is a good place to start. This is a Turmeric Rice Recipe, I tried a few years ago. If you decide to make it I would reduce the amount of salt. Turmeric pairs well with chicken and with beans too.
Here are just a few reasons why I decided to give turmeric a try. I am trying a number of new things out to see what I like and what I don’t, this is just one of them. I hope you will consider doing the same if you are trying to get healthier or if you are trying to give your diet a makeover.
If you have some tips that you can share I would love to hear from you. If you use turmeric now, how are you using it? Do you have a special recipe you could share? Feel free to comment below.

The taste is strong but the Golden Milk really does taste good and the flavor is very light, give it a try and let me know what you think.
