It’s Here Just in Time For January!
In the summer, I discovered a new app called Gym-Pact. This app actually pays you for keeping your commitment to working out. As you work to get in shape It is great for accountability, and it is also a great way to stay on track.
The app is very easy to use, and a few days ago they released the Android version, so now it’s available to people with both Android and iphone.
It is very easy to get started. First, you have to set-up your account. You must tell Gym-Pact how many times a week you are going to workout, and how much you are willing to pay if you don’t keep your commitment (the smallest amount is $5 per workout). When you go to the gym, or when you run (if you are running or power walking you have to pair the app up with Runkeeper), you have to check-in, no check-in, no credit. As long as you work out for 30 minutes your workout counts (if you are using Runkeeper, you also have to go 2 miles).
A few things to keep in mind, you have to have all of your workouts completed by Sunday, and you only get credit for one workout a day. The cycles run from Monday-Sunday, and the amount you earn will change based on the number of dollars they actually take in during that week, although they give you some general ranges when you sign up.
Now you can also invite your friends, via text message or Facebook, and there are social sharing features like Facebook and Twitter, so you can share your successes and your failures. The biggest drawback right now is this doesn’t work for people who work out at home, at least not yet, that is something they are still working on. The app crashes at times, but I have always found their staff to be both responsive, and helpful so it’s not a huge deal. Once your balance reaches $10 you can make a withdrawal via Paypal, and it goes right into your account within a day or so.
It truly is a great feeling to watch the numbers rise every week, and it is also amazing how the thought of having to pay money will help you keep your commitment. If you are looking for some extra support, it is a great tool, and wouldn’t it be nice to pay for your new bathing suit with the money you earned from working off those extra pounds. It may be just the lift you need to help you finally get rid of those 10 extra pounds you gained over Christmas, better yet invite some girlfriends, make a Gym-Pact together, and once you earn $20 go out for lunch!
