At The Movies… #Neighbors Should You Go See It?

11:42 pm by Aida 1 Comment

You know how it goes….

You grow up, you go to college, you get a job, you get married (or not), have a family (or not), and well you know..life changes.  Your priorities are now focused on your “new life”. Full of new roles and new responsibilities.. Yes, of course, Who doesn’t love growing up?

I know I can still remember college parties on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights that lasted well until the sun came out. Loud music, laughing and fun hanging out with friends catching up after a long week of classes, where the biggest problem you had was how you did on your last test… ahhh college life.

But when you are on the other side of that wonderful college party fun, when that music stops you from getting a goods nights rest and you actually have to be able to function at work the next day, all bets are off. Adding kids to that equation is a whole nother story. Now, can you imagine being married with a brand new baby, spending you hard earned cash on a downpayment to the house that you think would provide a nice and safe environment to raise a family, and just like that someone throws a monkey wrench in your program.

That is exactly where this new movie Neighbors begins…stars Seth Rogen, Rose Bryne, Zac Efron, and Dave Franco take us into this tug of war between us and them, where college kids who want to party and grown ups who have kids and need sleep clash head on. Slowly, you are ushered into the crazy world of I can’t move and Neighbor Wars all wrapped up in one.

The film is funny and deals with some great themes like dealing with the ever present life of parenting, life and growing up. It also tackles the real challenge of loss on both fronts as both parties deal with unknowns and life as it changes.

Watching Seth and Rose’s characters, work through the guilt of trying to take the high road, and be the cool, hip neighbors and then losing their patience when things don’t go according to plan is hilarious all by itself, but watching them dive in and try to settle the problem on their own is even more funny.

Watching this young couple brought back memories of the times when my daughter was young and the neighbors wouldn’t turn down the music despite several pleasant requests. The music went down for a few minutes and then it was party time again. So this is a topic that many of us have had to deal with, so it is great to be able to look back and laugh.

This movie is funny, but it is not for everyone. I clearly wouldn’t encourage you to bring your young teenage daughter to the film, unless you plan on having a conversation afterwards since their are tons of questionable references and innuendoes. But, if you are looking for a comedy that you can enjoy, and that actually is funny this is pretty good one to check out. I give it a B.
